Frequently Asked Questions
What ages do you teach?
I work with children ages 1–10. Each lesson is tailored to your child’s age, personality, and current comfort level in the water.
How many lessons per week are recommended?
For true water safety and skill retention, I recommend 2–3 sessions per week.
Consistency builds confidence, muscle memory, and calm decision-making in the water.
How long will it take for my child to become water safe?
Every child learns at their own pace, but most families notice meaningful progress within 4–6 weeks of consistent lessons. When sessions are held once a week, progress may occur more gradually. The timeline can also vary based on your child’s comfort level in the water and their willingness to work closely with me during lessons.

I always follow a child-centered approach and move at the pace that feels appropriate for your child. If you prefer a more accelerated approach and would like me to gently “push” your child to advance more quickly, I can adjust the instruction style to support your goals.
Do you teach ISR?
No. I do not use ISR or fear-based methods.
My approach is gentle, trust-building, and play-based, designed to help your child learn without tears or trauma and develop confidence that lasts.
What will my child learn?
Depending on age and ability, your child will develop:
-
Safe entry and exit techniques
-
Breath control
-
Floating and back safety
-
Wall navigation
-
Kicking and propulsion
-
How to calmly reach safety if they fall in

Older swimmers will work on:
-
Independent swimming skills
-
Stroke introduction
-
Breath rhythms
-
Endurance and technique
Can you work with older kids who already know the basics?
Absolutely. For confident swimmers, I assess their current skills, identify gaps, and create a personalized progression plan to build efficiency, endurance, and safe technique. As a 2012 Olympic Trial Qualifier I have ample experience in competition strokes.
What do I need for lessons?
Just a swimsuit and towel, goggles if recommended. I provide the rest: a smile, pool toys, confidence builders, and all safety equipment used for instruction.
Do I need to be in the water?
For younger swimmers (ages 1–2), parents may be asked to assist briefly during early sessions.
Older children participate independently, but you’re always encouraged to observe.
What if it rains?
Light rain is fine — thunder or lightning is not.
Weather rescheduling is provided as needed for safety.

During the rainy season - if there is over a 60% chance of rain at the time of our lesson we will cancel. Similarly, if there is thunder and/or lightning within 5 miles of our lesson location the lesson will be canceled.
What is your cancellation policy?
Because lessons are in high demand, cancellations within 24 hours are non-refundable.
Rescheduling is offered only for weather-related delays.
What kind of pool do I need?
Any private residential or community pool works, as long as it is clean, accessible, heated, and free of hazards. If you’re unsure, I can advise during your assessment.
